However, SeungRi takes control again with “Be Friend”, an upbeat piece reminiscent of 2012 Kpop and perhaps the most like his work seen under Big Bang. Four of the nine songs have a featured artist, filling up the middle of the playlist. One of the perceived weaknesses this album has is the reliance on features. The harshness of this song is broken up with “Love Is You” featuring Blue.D. It brings the listener into an upbeat rhythm that transitions strongly into “Where R U From”, which features labelmate Mino. Opening with “1, 2, 3!” the audial aesthetic is set somewhere between a James Bond film soundtrack and modern pop anthems. Featuring club bangers such as “Hotline”, “Where R U From” and “Be Friend”, SeungRi delivers a dance worthy rhythm that would be at home in a playlist with club classics by Lil Jon or Usher. His new work, WHATEVER titled The Great Seungri seems to be the product of his work as a DJ over the past years. SeungRi, youngest member of international sensation Big Bang, released his first solo album since Let’s Talk About Love in 2013.
